Do you want to help children with complex needs to enjoy all the experiences other children take for granted?
Sparkle (South Wales) is currently recruiting one volunteer charity trustee to complement the existing board members.
Our charity
Sparkle provides essential support to children with disabilities or learning difficulties and their families across Gwent, South Wales. We run leisure activities for approximately 200 children and young people, six days a week. Additionally, our Family Liaison Officers offer services such as advice, workshops, coffee mornings, and more.
Our charity operates with a dedicated team of both paid staff and volunteers, funding our work through grants and fundraising activities.
This flexible role requires in-person attendance at two board meetings and two family events per year, with the remaining eight meetings accessible online. Occasionally, participation in fundraising events may be requested.
Role profile
This is a strategic role overseeing the effective governance, assurance, performance and development of the charity. Trustees form the board, who hold ultimate responsibility for the charity, which is also a limited liability company.
Day to day operational matters are managed by our senior leadership team under the direction of the Sparkle Head of Operations.
As a trustee you will need to be:
- Living within easy reach of our base in Newport, South Wales Able to make strategic decisions that are in the best interest of the charity Able to prepare for, attend and actively participate in board meetings every six weeks (online with in person attendance minimum twice a year) Willing to represent the charity at fundraising/corporate events during the year Passionate about making a difference in the lives of our children, young people and families
Trustee role available
We are seeking an individual with a business background to support the charity by developing local and national business links. Preferably, this candidate will hold a senior position, such as CEO or Managing Director, in their own managed business.
A willingness to use their skills, resources and network to help change the lives of young people with disability in their area
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping every child to reach their full potential, and who has time to commit to our charity. As a children’s charity all interested individuals need to be sympathetic to our vision and mission statement . Given the nature of our work, all trustees will be required to have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Disclosure and Barring Service
This post requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including a children’s barred list check. Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, all convictions, including those deemed ‘spent,’ must be declared. While previous convictions do not necessarily disqualify a candidate, they must be disclosed at the appropriate stage of the recruitment process.
