By joining our board of trustees, you’ll have the opportunity to use your professional skills to make a tangible difference in the lives of some of Cardiff’s most vulnerable residents. You’ll work alongside a committed team of trustees, staff, and volunteers to help shape our strategic direction, ensure effective governance, and create lasting change in the lives of refugees and asylum seekers.

Skills and expertise we are looking for:

We are particularly interested in recruiting trustees with expertise in the following areas:
1. Funding and fundraising
   - Experience securing and managing diverse funding sources, including grants, public fundraising, and partnerships, to help Home4U achieve financial sustainability.
2. Finance  
   - Strong financial oversight skills, ideally with a background in charity finance, budgeting, or financial planning, to ensure effective management of our resources and compliance with financial regulations.
3. Housing  
   - Knowledge of housing issues, including property management, tenancy laws, and housing rights, to help us provide safe, high-quality housing options for our residents.
4. Strategy and business development  
   - Experience in strategic planning and business development to help guide Home4U’s growth, set priorities, and navigate challenges as we expand our services.
5. Human Resources (HR)  
   - HR expertise, including recruitment, staff development, and employee relations, to support our efforts in building a motivated, diverse, and inclusive team.

6. Health and safety
   - Knowledge of health and safety regulations to ensure safe environments for our residents, staff, and volunteers, with guidance on compliance and risk management.

7. Refugee and asylum legislation  
   - Up-to-date knowledge of refugee and asylum law to help us advocate effectively for our residents’ rights, guide policy decisions, and ensure we operate in compliance with legal frameworks.
What we’re looking for in a trustee 
We are seeking individuals who:
- Share a commitment to Home4U’s mission and values.
- Are willing to dedicate the necessary time and energy to actively support our work.
- Bring strategic vision, independent judgment, and creativity to our board.
- Are willing to speak openly and contribute constructively to discussions and decision-making.

Time Commitment 
We anticipate trustees will contribute approximately 4-6 hours per month, which includes attending monthly board meetings, participating in committee work, and supporting occasional events or strategic planning sessions. Meetings are a mix of in-person and virtual to accommodate schedules.
